The Molecular Diagnostic lab has been a part of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine for more than 20 years and provides detection, quantification and general characterization of more than 80 veterinary and zoonotic infectious agents.

Given the high demand for sensitive and rapid detection, the laboratory is expanding its range of services and developing new molecular tests and technologies for significant and emerging pathogens.

The laboratory is actively participating in research with various researchers at the Université de Montréal and other universities, federal and provincial laboratories, research centres and veterinary and public health companies.

Since the beginning of February 2015, the Centre de diagnostic vétérinaire de l’Université de Montréal offers all veterinarians who have signed the PRRSV sequences sharing agreements, a comparison to the centralized bank. The bank has over 4500 Quebec sequences from 2010 to today.

We are aware of the role we play in molecular biology education and also offer internships and training for veterinarians, researchers and technicians.
